01Getting started7

Are lessons online only?

Yes. All lessons are one to one and online. ELT has no classroom in Singapore.

What does my child need?

A computer with a camera and microphone, a stable connection and a quiet place to study.

What ages do you teach?

From upper primary to university applications, including students already at boarding school. The youngest age we accept is (to be confirmed).

When can lessons take place?

Tutors in Japan are one hour ahead of Singapore and teach after school on weekdays. Tutors in the UK are seven or eight hours behind and teach in Singapore afternoons, evenings and weekends.

How do we begin?

With a free consultation with a coordinator, then a paid 50-minute trial lesson with a subject tutor, then monthly lessons if you decide to continue. See fees.

In which languages can we talk to you?

We reply to emails and messages in the language you prefer. The consultation can be in English, Chinese or Japanese. Lessons are taught in English.

Should a parent sit in on lessons?

You are welcome to join when needed, but we do not ask parents to attend every lesson, as many students focus better on their own. Lessons are recorded only with a parent's consent, and ELT checks every tutor's identity; tutors in the UK have a DBS check.

02School subjects4

Do you teach the MOE syllabus?

No. We teach international and UK curricula — IB, IGCSE, International A-Level and UK Key Stages — not PSLE, O Level or H2 A-Level.

Which subjects and curricula do you teach?

English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for IB, IGCSE, International A-Level and UK Key Stages 2–3, where we have tutors. See Academic Tutoring and the curricula guide.

Can we choose or change the tutor?

Yes. If the match is not right, the coordinator suggests another tutor and hands over the learning record.

How are tutors checked?

ELT checks qualifications before a tutor teaches. Profiles show what was checked and when. See tutors.

03The next school7

Singapore's year starts in January. How does that fit UK entry in September?

Your coordinator maps your child's date of birth and Singapore year to the UK year group, then works back from each school's deadlines. See the application timeline.

Where do Singapore students sit UKiset and the ISEB Pre-Test?

(to be confirmed) See the guides to UKiset and the ISEB Pre-Test.

Do you help with entry to international schools in Singapore?

Yes. We prepare your child for each school's English and maths assessments and interview, and bridge the move from a local school to an international curriculum. Each school sets its own process. See international school entry.

Do you guarantee a place?

No. Schools decide admissions. We prepare your child and support the application.

What does application support cover?

Shortlisting boarding or international schools in any country, the application timeline and documents, test and interview preparation, and the steps to joining. The scope and fees are on the school applications page.

Do you receive fees from schools?

ELT may receive a referral fee from partner schools. We say which schools are partners, and this does not change the order in which we suggest schools. See school applications.

Does my child need a guardian at a UK boarding school?

Schools often require overseas boarders under 18 to have an educational guardian in the UK. ELT does not arrange guardians; we give you a list of providers to choose from. See the UK guide.

04University5

When should we start planning a UK university application?

Usually in the year before the final school year, so that subject choices, the personal statement and any tests fit the UCAS deadlines. See the UCAS timeline.

What does university application support cover?

Course and subject choices, the personal statement (your child's own work, with our feedback), interviews and offers, for UK universities through UCAS. See university admissions.

Do you prepare for IELTS, TOEFL, the SAT or admissions tests?

Only where a specialist tutor is in place. (to be confirmed)

Do you help with universities outside the UK?

We start with the UK. (to be confirmed)

Do you guarantee a university offer?

No. Universities decide admissions.
