# English for international curricula.

Source: https://www.eltschool.org/intl/en/tutoring/english

For families outside Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan whose child studies English as a school subject at an international or British-curriculum school. A specialist tutor works one to one, online, on close reading, analysis and writing in the format your child's course is assessed.

Courses we follow: UK Key Stages 2–3 · IGCSE / GCSE · IB MYP and Diploma · A-Level (International and UK) · AP

## The courses we follow.

| Course | What lessons work on |
|---|---|
| UK Key Stages 2–3 | Reading for meaning, grammar and longer pieces of writing before the GCSE years |
| IGCSE / GCSE | English Language and English Literature: unseen texts, comparison and writing under time limits |
| IB MYP and Diploma | Language and Literature, and Literature: commentary, the individual oral and written tasks (to be confirmed) |
| A-Level (International and UK) | English Literature and English Language at AS and A Level |
| AP | AP English Language and Composition, and AP English Literature and Composition (to be confirmed) |

Lessons follow international and British curricula. We do not teach national school syllabuses or national university entrance exams.

## Where families often start.

- Commentary on poems and prose seen for the first time
- Planning an essay with a clear line of argument
- Set texts: context, themes and quotation
- Getting ready for spoken assessments

## A weekly rhythm, written down.

1. **First lesson**: The tutor checks your child's current level against the school's scheme of work and the dates of the next exams.
2. **Regular lessons**: One to one and online, booked in your child's local time zone after school or at the weekend.
3. **Notes for parents**: A short written note after every lesson, and a fuller report every (to be confirmed).
4. **Before exams**: Lessons move to past papers, timed answers and revision ahead of mocks and final exams.

## Who teaches.

English is taught by subject specialists. Each tutor profile shows their subjects, the courses they teach and the qualifications ELT has checked.

## English lessons: common questions.

**English is not our home language. Is this the right course?**

These lessons are for students studying English as a school subject at an English-medium school. The coordinator can tell you after the first consultation whether subject lessons or other support fits better.

**Can the tutor use the texts my child is studying at school?**

Yes. Share the reading list or scheme of work and lessons are planned around it.

**Will the tutor write or correct coursework?**

No. Tutors teach the skills and comment on drafts within the school's and exam board's rules on outside help. The work remains your child's.
