# University applications, one to one.

Source: https://www.eltschool.org/hk/en/courses/university-admissions

This course is for Hong Kong families whose child will apply to UK universities through UCAS. Your coordinator plans back from the UCAS deadlines, and specialist tutors help with subject choices, the personal statement, admissions tests and interviews — alongside IB Diploma or A-Level lessons.

## Students applying to UK universities.

- IB Diploma and A-Level students at international schools in Hong Kong, or at boarding schools abroad (to be confirmed)
- Students considering UK universities; other countries are added as tutors join
- Families who want the application planned together with school subjects

## From subject choices to interviews.

| Area | What we do |
|---|---|
| Timing | A plan worked back from the UCAS deadlines and your child's school year |
| Subject choices | IB Diploma or A-Level subjects, and how they relate to the courses your child is considering |
| Personal statement | Planning and feedback on drafts; the writing stays the student's own |
| Interviews and tests | Interview practice in English, and admissions tests where we have a tutor (to be confirmed) |

Requirements differ by university and course, and change from year to year. Always check [UCAS](https://www.ucas.com/) and each university's own admissions pages.

## One plan, with school subjects.

1. **Consultation**: Your child's school, curriculum, subjects and the courses they are considering.
2. **A written plan**: Key dates from UCAS and the universities, worked back from your child's school year.
3. **Subjects and applications**: IB Diploma or A-Level lessons through [Academic Tutoring](https://www.eltschool.org/hk/en/tutoring), alongside personal statement feedback.
4. **Tests and interviews**: Practice for the admissions tests and interviews your child's courses use, where we have a tutor.
5. **Offers**: Your coordinator helps you compare offers and plan for the final exams.

## When to start.

Many families start in the year before the application, so that subject choices, reading and the personal statement are not left to the final term. Your coordinator works back from the UCAS deadlines and your child's school year.

We do not promise an offer. Universities decide admissions.

Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses have an earlier deadline in mid-October; most other courses close in January. See [UCAS dates and deadlines](https://www.ucas.com/applying/applying-to-university/dates-and-deadlines-for-uni-applications) for each year's dates.

## Tutors for applications.

Each tutor profile lists the subjects, curricula and admissions tests they prepare, qualifications checked by ELT, and the hours they can teach in Hong Kong time. Profiles are being prepared on our [繁體中文 tutor page](https://www.eltschool.org/hk/zh/teachers); until then, your coordinator introduces a tutor after the consultation.

## Fees in HKD.

Lessons are priced per lesson, with the coordinator, a written note after every lesson and reports to parents included. University applications support is quoted separately; see the fees page.

## About applications.

**When should we start?**

Many families start in the year before the application. Your coordinator works back from the UCAS deadlines and your child's school year.

**Do you guarantee an offer?**

No. Universities decide admissions. We help your child prepare and support the application.

**Will you write the personal statement?**

No. The personal statement must be your child's own work. Tutors help your child plan it and give feedback on drafts.
